Installing boot9strap (menuhax)

Technical Details (optional)

We use BannerBomb3 to install menuhax67, which lets us access the Homebrew Launcher. From there, we launch uloader which launches SafeB9SInstaller.

You should only be able to get to this page if you are running version 11.15.0 or 11.14.0. If you are on any firmware above 11.15.0, uloader will fail.

  • The latest release of boot9strap (direct download)
  • The latest release of BannerBomb3 (direct download)
  • The latest release of uloader (direct download)
  • The latest release of Luma3DS (the Luma3DS .zip file)

第一節 — 準備工作

  1. Power off your console
  2. 將 SD 卡插入至電腦中
  3. 解壓 Luma3DS .zip 內的 boot.firm 及 boot.3dsx 到 SD 卡的根目錄底下
  4. 在 SD 卡的根目錄底下建立一個新的資料夾 boot9strap
  5. 解壓 boot9strap .zip 的 boot9strap.firm 及 boot9strap.firm.sha 檔案至 SD 卡的 /boot9strap/ 資料夾中
  6. 將 SafeB9SInstaller .zip 中的 SafeB9SInstaller.bin 複製到 SD 卡的根目錄
  7. Copy bb3.bin from the Release .zip to the root of your SD card, replacing the current file
  8. Copy Launcher.dat from the folder for your model and region inside the Release .zip to the root of your SD card
  9. 在 SD 卡的根目錄底下建立一個新資料夾 3ds
    • This folder stores homebrew applications and data; it is different from the Nintendo 3DS folder that the console automatically generates
  10. Copy uloader.3dsx to the /3ds/ folder on your SD card
  11. Reinsert your SD card into your console

第二節 — BannerBomb3

In this section, you will trigger the BannerBomb3 exploit using the DSiWare Management menu and use it to install the menuhax67 exploit.

  1. Power on your console
  2. Launch System Settings on your console
  3. Navigate to Data Management -> DSiWare -> SD Card (image)
    • Your console should show the BB3 multihax menu
  4. Use the D-Pad to navigate and press the (A) button to select “Install *hax”
    • Your console will automatically reboot

Section III - menuhax67

In this section you will use the menuhax67 exploit installed earlier to launch uloader, which will load SafeB9SInstaller.

  1. Tap on the small HOME Menu settings icon in the top left of the bottom screen ()
    • If the console freezes for a while and then crashes, make sure you have Launcher.dat on the root of your SD card
  2. If the exploit was successful, your console will have booted into the Homebrew Launcher
  3. Launch uloader from the list of homebrew
  4. 如果一切成功的話，您將自動進入 SafeB9SInstaller
    • If the console freezes or crashes, force power off the console, then retry this section

第四節 — 安裝 boot9strap

In this section, you will install custom firmware onto your console.

  1. When prompted, input the key combo given on the top screen to install boot9strap
  2. Once it is complete, press (A) to reboot your console
  3. Your console should have booted into the Luma3DS configuration menu
    • Luma3DS configuration menu are settings for the Luma3DS custom firmware. Many of these settings may be useful for customization or debugging
    • For the purpose of this guide, leave these options on the default settings (do not check or uncheck anything)
    • If your console shuts down when you try to power it on, ensure that you have copied boot.firm from the Luma3DS .zip to the root of your SD card
  4. 按『Start』鍵以存檔並重新啟動系統

At this point, your console will boot to Luma3DS by default.

  • Luma3DS does not look any different from the normal HOME Menu. If your console has booted into the HOME Menu, it is running custom firmware.
  • On the next page, you will install useful homebrew applications to complete your setup.

Section V - Removing menuhax67

In this section, you will trigger the BannerBomb3 exploit a second time so that you can uninstall the menuhax67 exploit you installed in Section II. This will allow you to use the HOME Menu settings normally again.

  1. Launch System Settings on your console
  2. Navigate to Data Management -> DSiWare -> SD Card (image)
  3. Use the D-Pad to navigate and press the (A) button to select “Uninstall *hax”
    • Your console will automatically reboot
  4. Power off your console
  5. 將 SD 卡插入至電腦中
  6. 於您的 SD 卡中，移動至 Nintendo 3DS -> <ID0> -> <ID1> -> Nintendo DSiWare
  7. Delete F00D43D5.bin from your Nintendo DSiWare folder and from your computer. 這個檔案之後不再需要了
